Health... Nutrition...Temperament...

As a responsible breeder, I believe that a combination of health, temperament, looks and intelligence
is what makes the perfect companion!!  Although no one can truly "guarantee" that a puppy will not be
afflicted with hereditary disorders, we do guranteee that we research pedigrees and health to our best ability,
and that we breed only sound dogs.  While I do believe that hip dysplasia can be genetic, there are things
that we can do to help our dogs in their growing stage to develop strong and healthy hip joints.

Hip dysplasia is believed to have four contributing causes:

* genetics

* over feeding

* feeding high protein puppy formulas (especially after 6months of age)

* too much exercise at a young age

It is felt that genetics play between a 25% and 30% role in a dog having hip dysplasia. This means that
new owners can assume a great deal of responsibility (70% to 75%) in seeing that their dog develops
good joints and hips as they are growing.

Puppies should be kept on the thin side. Carrying too much weight at a young age is going to add stress
on soft puppy bones and is believed to have an effect on the skeletal development of a young dog.
New owners need to be very careful NOT to over-exercise their puppy causing stress to growing joints.
Young bones do not entirely calcify until 12 months of age. Overstressing joints at a young age can cause
joint problems such as hip dysplasia.

NUTRITION

Many health and hip problems are caused by poor diet.
We do not feed ordinary puppy food of any brand It is to rich for these large breed puppies.
A fat puppy is an unhealthy puppy!

We recommend Holistic Eagle Pack, Go! Natural, Canidae, Newmans Own Organics
and The Honest Kitchen dog foods.

It is essential that you keep your puppy at the appropriate weight in all stages of life. Also, we only feed
LARGE breed puppy food until the puppy reaches 6 months of age, at which time you can switch him/her
to an adult food.  This helps prevent the puppy from receiving excessive amounts of calcium and calories which can
lead to joint damage.
Dog foods with Glucosamine are best for joint health for your large breed dog.

TEMPERAMENT

Our temperament guarantee is honored when the required training by Autumnridge and documentation of
all certificates have been provided to Autumnridge Kennels.

A minimum of one year of obedience classes are required with a professional trainer.

Lack of socialization on the buyers part does not constitue poor breeding or unstable temperament on the
Sellers part.  Buyer agrees to notify the seller of any major behavioral problems before they become out of control.

Temperament is a result of many things, not simply genetics, and seller accepts that much of a puppy or dogs final temperament or adjustment is determined by the skill and patience of the puppy's owner and how the puppy or dog is raised  or incorporated into the new home/situation or environment.

It is important and required that human and puppy/dog attend several accredited obedience classes to
validate temperament guarantee.

Too often, nice puppies develop temperament problems as a result of the way they were raised.

We have no control over environment!!
